Nigerian Army Intensifies Operation, Destroys Bandit Strongholds in Taraba

The Nigerian Army has recorded significant operational successes in its renewed offensive against armed bandits in Taraba State, affirming its commitment to restoring peace and stability across the region. Troops of Headquarters 6 Brigade/Sector 3 Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS) have intensified operations, achieving multiple victories that include the destruction of key criminal hideouts, the neutralization of armed elements, and the arrest of a key suspect.

Clearance Operation: Operation Zafin Wuta

The major success came during a targeted clearance operation, codenamed Operation Zafin Wuta (Hot Fire), launched on December 2, 2025. Acting on credible intelligence regarding the presence of armed groups, troops targeted the mountainous hideouts across Shiid, Agia, and Tyozua villages in the Takum Local Government Area.

Destruction of Strongholds: As the soldiers advanced, the bandits abandoned their camps and fled deeper into the rugged terrain. The troops conducted thorough searches before destroying the hideouts, dismantling camps that the criminals had previously boasted were inaccessible to security forces.

Tactical Resilience: In Tyozua, the fleeing bandits attempted to obstruct troop movement by setting a wooden bridge ablaze. However, the soldiers pressed forward, successfully forcing the criminals across the power line and into neighboring Benue State.

Arrest: During the subsequent exploitation phase, one key suspect, identified as Dahiru Maigari, was arrested and is currently undergoing preliminary investigation.

Neutralizing Attackers in Karim Lamido

In a separate operation conducted on December 4, troops on a fighting patrol around Karim Lamido came under direct fire from armed bandits concealed near the Wudompi Community. The soldiers quickly and effectively returned fire, repelling the attack and successfully neutralizing two of the armed men. A search of the area led to the recovery of one AK-47 rifle and 21 rounds of ammunition. The attackers are believed to be members of the Karimjo faction attempting to regroup in the area. No casualties were reported on the side of the troops.

The Commander of 6 Brigade/Sector 3 OPWS, Brigadier General Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa, commended the professionalism and gallantry of the troops. He emphasized that the successful operations demonstrate the Army’s unwavering resolve and capability, proving that “no terrain is inaccessible to the Nigerian Army and no criminal enclave is beyond reach.” The Brigade has assured the residents of Taraba that pressure will be sustained on criminal elements until lasting peace is restored.
