The Chief Executive of the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC), Gbenga Komolafe, has been elected as the Chairman of the African Regulatory Forum (AFRIPERF), the official body representing petroleum regulators across the entire African continent. Crucially, Nigeria was also unanimously adopted as the official headquarters of the Forum, solidifying its position not just as Africa’s largest oil producer but as the central hub for energy governance.
This dual endorsement has been hailed by groups like the West African Centre for Oil Governance (WACOG) as a major boost for regional energy integration and a necessary step toward regulatory cohesion. The entire continent stands to benefit significantly from a unified and strategically aligned platform capable of shaping policies that drastically improve investor confidence and enhance long-term energy security.
